Step Into Respite - Introdution to overnight stays
28/07/2011 at 1:52:46 am
The Step Into Respite program is a 2 day camp specifically aimed at young, first time campers. These camps are for children aged 5-12 years who have previously never attended a camp with Kids Camps and are not currently members.

The Step Into Respite program offers the option for an older sibling of the campers to attend. This may assist campers with a smoother transition into overnight respite.

Kids Camps will be offering 30 placements per year with a total of 6-8 campers attending each camp. The camps will be run very much in line with the usual weekend camps, the main difference being that there is only 1 overnight stay.

With the inclusion of siblings being able to attend, Kids Camps hopes that this will ease the younger children into overnight respite whilst also offering a fun, interactive time for the older siblings.

The first of the SIR camps was run in April 2011 and the feedback from Families, Campers and Leaders was FANTASTIC!
Families were very happy with the supportive and positive environment that allowed their young children to venture into overnight respite with many families booking their children onto futher camps. 3 Siblings attended the camp and had a wonderful time.

A flyer and application form can be found just below in the Quick Downloads section of this website.

What our families have to say.....

WHAT FAMILIES ARE SAYING ABOUT THE STEP INTO RESPITE PROGRAM

"In April this year, my two sons went on the Step Into Respite Camp so my youngest son Henry could experience separation from home for the first time.
While the kids were gone, we had the opportunity for the first time in 11 years, to do as we pleased. We didn’t do anything anyone would find exciting, but it was exciting for us. We did the grocery shopping and all our errands over a whole day...because we could. We spontaneously changed our minds and went to different shops...because we could. We drove for a long time in the car to get to places...because we could. Here is the best part. We slept a whole night through, uninterrupted, from beginning to end...because we could. And we couldn’t have done any of this without the support of Kids Camp and in particular Jessica. Jessica looked after Henry for the weekend and we couldn’t have done it any better ourselves. It has given us great confidence in Henry’s future camps and outings outside of home and it gives us hope for our future. So thank you to all the volunteers at Kids Camp and in particular the carers who looked after our children in April this year. Without you, our children wouldn’t be able to experience the world like other kids can.
Thank you all."
